What program should i get to download music?

I want to use a program to download music so I can make cds. I used to have limewire but now you have to pay for it and I know about ares too and I b et there are others too. So my question is, which one is better and why? An d the safest as far as not getting viruses go? Not sure which one I should subscribe to
