Spiritually Speaking: What is the scientists' motivation in this urban legend?

This whole silly thing has nothing at all to do with science. If a "scientist" claimed to have seen evidence to support this story, he was not speaking in a scientific manner at the time...... just as a person backing up an almost certainly false claim. Scientists are human, therefore they have all kinds of different beliefs and motivations inside their minds, just like everyone else.
